Medical tattoos are on the rise in Canada, and recently a case in he New England Journal of Medicine showed how physcians dealt with a man with a do not resuscitate (DNR) tattoo on his chest. It brought in legal, ethical and moral decisions that needed to be addressed when having to care for a man trying to indicate his wishes for his life on his body with a tattoo.
An article in the National Post called “Doctors Obey?” by Vanessa Hrvatin and Lindsey Bever, laid out physicians can faced with tough decisions. According to Dr. Bojan Paunovic, executive member of the Canadian Critical Care Society and an ICU physician, “Unless the Supreme Court says a tattoo is a legally binding document, then it’s nothing more than an expression of emotion.” I will be interested to see what more comes of stories like this.

In an article titled Opioid prescriptions in Canada on the rise over last 5 years on the CBC, seniors hold the highest risks of complications with these type of medications. ” Seniors are at greater risk for opioid-related harms due to several factors, including age-related changes in drug absorption and metabolism, and cognitive changes that may increase the risk of accidental drug poisoning.” On the positive side of things, at least Fentanyl prescriptions were down by almost 7 percent.
Loss of a Friend Since Childhood
It was a sad week with the loss of a long time friend of family, a local guy that I had known since I was a kid. I, like many in our community, will be attending funeral services on Friday. I was fortunate enough to see him just days before his departure of from our lives, and I’m glad I was able to have had him around because life was always more interesting with him in your company. Trevor, I will miss you. It was better to have you in our lives than to go on without you. Thank you for being with us all.
I moved to Cold Lake Chiropractic in hopes I could bring in more clients on a regular basis, which it did help but was not enough to save me working massage full time. I give thanks to Dr. Kopala for giving me the opportunity to work at his clinic, it was a great place to work and I wish it things were busier that I could have stayed.
That being said, I’ve been in talks with Brenden at Motion in Sync to use a room on a per use basis so that I can continue serving clients in Cold Lake. If it weren’t for him I may not have continued working massage at all.

Newly Recognized Links of Obesity and Breast Cancer
Recently a study in Sweden showed correlation of obesity and larger tumours in breast cancer. The larger tumours are thought to occur because of a lack of recognition of lumps on the breast tissue, as well as the tumours growing at a faster rate. Regardless, larger tumours tend to carry a worse prognosis. As uncomfortable as it is to get your mammogram done, it is something to consider if more seriously if you are overweight because there are already enough negative health effects related to obesity.
Because I am changing my schedule, I will be updating for the next few weeks instead of the next 5 open days. Here is this week’s schedule update:

Wed Dec 6th 9am, 10:15am, 11:30am, 2:30pm, 3:45pm, 5pm
Many of the veterans of second world war haven’t been around for a long time now. There are a few left but every year their numbers dwindle as the majority of them are now averaging the age of 94. I believe it’s important that even after all of our men and women who have served our country during that time of war are remembered even after they are gone, but more importantly I hope that we will never see another time in my life where one side of the planet goes up against the other.
After a period of training and orientation, I am now one an official work schedule of 4 days on and 4 days off. During my 4 days off I will be looking to work with clients for massage for at least 2 days. My hours will no only be from 9am to 6:15pm. The times I will have open will be as follows:
My 4 on/4 off schedule will rotate every 7 weeks. If I work Mon/Tues one week, next week will be Tues/Wed and Wed/Thurs the week after. I will not be working weekends, only weekdays before and after weekends. I will be working at Cold Lake Chiropractic for the remainder of November, and then before December I will notify all clients where I will be providing service.
