Weekly Schedule Update October 2nd, 2017

Are We Heading Towards a Big Fat Future?

Canada ranks as 8 in 10 countries assessed for the prevalence of obesity, but the numbers are getting bigger and so are people.

Leading the country is British Columbia, followed by Quebec and then us in Alberta. However, we in Alberta have our own issues.

You might notice all of the chronic conditions that are related to obesity in some way or form.

The is a MRI of two 5′,6″ women. Visibly quite different, but the financial difference is not as easily seen.

One of the most common solutions used for this problem, but is it really a solution? At what cost?

In a time frame of almost 10 years you can see that the direct cost increases by 1/2 a billion dollars, and is climbing.

With obesity comes inactivity and sedentary behaviour, both of which are associated to costs expected to explode in the not so distant future.

Our own senate has made suggestions for preventing and reducing obesity, but how far will these suggestions go in our country?

We live in a society where it has come to a point where in our generation our kids will not outlive us as parents. What will it take for out country, and it’s citizens, to tip the scales in favour of decreasing obesity and improving body composition?
